Getting Started on Padlock
This guide offers eight steps to get started on Padlock, our testnet.
1. How to connect to Padlock
Open a web browser and enter the following address:
https://console.porta.network/#/explorer
You are now on the Porta blockchain: Padlock.
2. [Update] Use the Testnet Faucet to Get Testnet Tokens
You can use the Testnet Faucet to get testnet tokens. Simply enter your testnet account address and the tokens will be sent to you.
3. How to create your own cryptocurrency
An asset is a cryptocurrency tradable on the Porta blockchain.
A frequent question we normally get is “Can I create my own cryptocurrency on the Porta blockchain?”
Yes, and this tutorial shows you how!
Requirement: To create a new token, your Porta account must hold 12,500+ Porta tokens. It does not cost 12,500 tokens to create an asset, it is simply a holding requirement at the time of asset creation.
4. How to mint your own tokens
Minting essentially means generating tokens in your native cryptocurrency.
In this tutorial, we will show you how to generate tokens in your native cryptocurrency and send them to other addresses.
5. How to create a smart contract and load it onto Porta’s blockchain
Smart contracts are programs stored on a blockchain that run when predetermined conditions are met. This tutorial shows you how to do so on Porta.
Requirement: You have completed the installation, use this checklist found here to ensure you have done so.
6. How to interact with your smart contract
This shows you how to execute the functions of your smart contract.

Requirement: You will have deployed your smart contract to the Porta blockchain.
7. How to setup a validator node
This tutorial is designed to familiarise developers with the process of running a node on their local machine.
You will create the required accounts:
- Create a stash account
- Create a controller account
- Create a reward account
Bond the stash and controller together; direct rewards to reward account.
The tutorial assumes the user already has Rust installed on the machine they will use for validating. However, if you do not, please refer to the following installation guide.
8. Setup a validator node on Digital Ocean
Using the skills learned in the last tutorial, we expand upon this model by running the server in a cloud VPS (Digital Ocean).

- Setup the server
- Get a domain
- Secure nginx
- Setup a validator node
